Research

An overview of the rich and successful research activities at the Department of Economics can be obtained from the list of Working Papers. For more information please visit the websites of the Department members.

The main areas of our theoretical and empirical work are labour markets, taxes and social policy, health economics, industrial organisation and macro. Our research is oriented towards the highest international standards and often contributes to the analysis of pressing current economic policy problems.

Our research is also externally supported by grants of the Austrian  Science Funds, the Austrian Central Bank, Norface and the German Science Funds. Between 2008 and 2014 the department hosted a large National Research Network "The Austrian Center for Labor Economics and the Analysis of the Welfare State", financed by the FWF (Austrian Research Fund), with collaborating partner institutes in Vienna, Innsbruck, Zurich and Berkeley.  Since 2004 Linz is the Austrian Hub for the "Survey on Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe" (SHARE). In 2014 the third socio-economic Christian-Doppler Laboratory was established in Austria under the title "Aging, Health and the Labor Market".
