Gerald J. Pruckner is Professor of Health Economics and head of the Health Economics Institute at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) of Linz. He graduated from the JKU where he also received his Habilitation. He spent one year at the University of California and several months at the Universities of Stockholm (Sweden) and Adelaide (Australia). From 2002 until 2006 he was a Professor for Public Economics at the University of Innsbruck.

His research interest is health economics and behavioral economics. His primarily empirical papers focus on health-care research and health prevention. He was a deputy leader of the National Research Network “Labor Economics and the Welfare State” from 2008 to 2015. Currently he is one of the two leaders of the Christian Doppler Research Laboratory for“Aging, Health, and the Labor Market”.
